About this listen

From the creator of the Millennium Wolves series comes the heart-stopping sequel to Cloak of the Vampire, the epic romantasy set in a brutal world of bloodthirsty and power-hungry vampires.

Aileen Henderson didn’t choose to die. That choice was stolen from her, brutally, at the hands—and lips—of a monster. With a singular kiss, Lord Ragnor Rayne condemned the twenty-one-year-old to an eternity she never wanted. And a future she refuses to accept.

Despite the fury now coursing through her veins, Aileen fights the pull of attraction to Ragnor, a need with a will of its own. But now, she’s determined to make her way without the vampire lord’s help.

Carving out her new existence, Aileen finds allies, even family, among the ruthless and competitive vampire leagues. But untold dangers abound, and soon, Aileen encounters new and more evil monsters.

When ancient, all-powerful gods dredge up nightmares from her past, Aileen discovers she has an important role to play in this world. And if she can learn to control her powers and her desires, she may find a way to survive both her enemies and Ragnor Rayne.

I did like the story and I did read to the end but there was a point in the book where I just couldn't ignore that all the women were almost portrayed in a weak and needy way, rather than heroes kicking ass way. any woman that was suddenly deemed as hardcore or good enough had to take on male characteristics or removed their feminine characteristics to be considered good.
In book 1, Aileen was definitely portrayed as the hero. sticking it to Ragnar. but book 2 without spoiling any of the story really leaned into stereotypical traditional male female roles which was a bit disappointing.

good, but it is a pity that the women in this book are portrayed as quite weak when expressing emotion.

I really loved this amazing book I felt that it was an emotional roller coaster in a great way of course. The story about Aileen and what happened to her as a child and what she had to put up with was so heart wrenching. I loved how Aileen eventually had friends. I love Sapir writing style I love the narrators they are amazing at what they do. I have bought book 3 and I hope that Sapir will write more books because I would certainly look forward to reading and listening to them. You are amazing Sapir.

emotional in a great way.
