Cole Ryan is bored. He’s lived in the same small town his whole life and has the same job. Nothing changes there and every morning when he goes for a run, those thoughts echo on repeat through his mind. Until today, on this day, something big happens and if he survives it, his life won’t be the same. Maybe boring old Hickory Crossing wasn’t so bad after all.

Driving in the rain, on his way to a delivery, Bobby Sanders is focused on the road, when a flash of blue light in the distance catches his eye. He witnesses a bolt of lightning strike a man running on the road ahead of him. He never suspected that bolt of lightning could change both their lives, not just the poor guy who was blown out of his shoes right in front of him.

When the persistent sound of whispering won’t go away, Cole questions his sanity. But maybe he’s not the only one experiencing strange things.

Cole has been lamenting his boring life when he's suddenly struck by weird blue lightning.
Luckily for him, Bobby happened to be working nearby and saw everything.
Things only get weirder as Cole undergoes a strange transformation.
There's lots of strange happenings going on, but thankfully, they're able to keep each other safe.
The narrator did an amazing job narrating and bringing these characters to life.

Very enjoyable narrator, although for me, the scary and emotional situations didn't always quite show in the acting. The general voice used sounded older than the MCs.
Story - interesting world building, the blue lightning and paranormal aspects were good. The MCs were really very sweet and were very supportive of each other. They were brave in a way no one would ever expect to have to be, and very selfless.

Having not read this story prior to listening it took me a while to get into the story. It was a bit unclear what to expect. But it turns out more and more details paint a story of secrets and unexplained events and happenings. Bobby & Cole find out what seems to be happening and are i.m.o. destined to be together I found the paranormal aspect in this book was more prevalent than the romance. I felt the paranoral storyline was left on a bit of a cliffhanger.4-

Narration: Guy Veryzer was i.m.o. not a good fit for this story. I don't know the age of the narrator. To me his voice sounds like a feeble old man which did not fit for me. The Mc's are young and vital and it took effort to 'hear' the story through the voice. I appreciate the narrator might get instructions from the author, but this did not work for me. 2,5*

A perfect balance of romance and magic, with Cole gaining paranormal abilities (and much more, but I’m not spoiling) when he gets struckby a strange blue lightning. It seems a chance that Bobby is there at the right time to help Cole, but fate would be the better word for it.
Fast paced, sweet and with just a hint of fright, I enjoyed this book very much.
