About this listen

Americans are fascinated by the undeniable mystique of the elite world of Navy fighter pilots. In Bogeys and Bandits, Robert Gandt takes listeners on a thrilling ride in the FA-18 Hornet, one of the fastest, sleekest, and deadliest aircraft in the world.

Gandt lived and worked with several pilots learning to fly the Hornet: the identical twins from Middle America; the computer nerd with a penchant for speed; the grandson of a Tuskegee Airman, trying to live up to a proud legacy; and two women dealing with the post-Tailhook world of the Navy.

Gandt weaves superb technological details of the Hornet and an insider's look at the highly demanding training program with portraits of the day-to-day lives of these very real people aspiring to fulfill a dream. Bogeys and Bandits will hold listeners breathless as they soar through the skies in the cockpit of the fastest and deadliest fighter plane in the world.

Hard to listen, but interesting story. Wondering if will be another release with better narrator.

Very bad narrated

This is a great story and is intriguing. Unfortunately it is ruined by the editing and production choices.
Some of the story telling sounded as though it was edited words just cobbled together, or a common phrase inserted, akin to sat nav instructions! As for corrections recorded later these are of such poor quality to grate.
Then there is the music! To highlight the increased tension and drama of the story music would start up, like the soundtrack to a movie. I found this annoying and patronising. When reading a book I don’t sit there with a soundtrack accompanying me, hence I don’t expect it to be a part of an audio book.
It’s a real shame as the story is interesting and an insight into the world of U.S. Naval Aviation and what is required to pass FA 18 Hornet flight training.

Great Story spoilt by poor production.

Good story but in my personal opinion Thomas Block sucks as a narrator. He sounds like he slurs his words and loses interest in reading the story. The voiced he uses for certain characters are cringe-worthy. I did not enjoy this book because of this.

Interesting Story

The narrator is irritating and not to mention the pauses between sentences, it just comes across like the fast rambling old man
