Well! What a rollercoaster of surreal brilliance. As with book one, I spent 90% of this book in a state of happy befuddlement; Nothing makes sense until the very end, but it doesn’t really matter because there’s just the right mix of humour, suspense, and emotion in the meantime. Following the buildup in book one, the development of some of the characters and their relationships is a little lacklustre (and clearly set aside for a spinoff/third book). Others, on the other hand, are impactful and satisfying. There’s a delicious slow burn going on for much of the book, even if the actual spicy times seem like more of an afterthought. The true power of this story lies in Alexis’ personal journey, and her emotional connection with some of the other characters. The narration is first class.

I don't know how to rate this, lol. The first book was a 5 star read for me, so this book was much anticipated.
So let's recap, as it's important! We left off with Alexis being tricked into marrying two A-hole men. She hates them and is plotting revenge. We as readers have been primed to dislike them along with her. We were also told this would be a why choose.
Enter book two, we are some months on, and it's like I've entered a new book. Our characters personalities have completely changed, unrecognisable. We go from two MMCs who are power hungry, trap Alexis into a marriage, and a bond to.........our two MMCs acting like golden retrievers for Alexis. Don't get me wrong they are unhinged in a stalker violent way 🤣🤣 I'm here for it 😂😂 However they are golden retrievers for her now, no back story, flash backs to the months past, just here are you two 'new' MMCs. The author tries to hold onto some of book one by them not getting physical with her saying she's not ready as they are depraved and there won't be any 'making love'. When it does happen, it was a good scene, but it was vanilla and not even real vanilla beans, think artificial vanilla extract 😂😂😂. Still great but a whole books build up of you will get x to getting the opposite was just weird. It also is not a why choose! Our other MMCs are not that present and again urgh.
So I had a choice to make as Alexis was frustrating at the beginning, but I was laughing. The animal side kicks, especially Nyx, was ON POINT, and I liked these two 'NEW' men! I decided to read it as a standalone. Truly, I think you could without reading book one!
I'm beyond glad I did and separated it with how I felt about the MMCs and why choose expectations. The trials in this are AMAZING! True adult high stakes, violent, shocking at times trials.
I laughed so much during this book, between Alexis and the animals it was hilarious. Hades, Persephone, and our other characters were on point. I love Hades and Persephone so much in this book. The get rid of a body scene was brilliant.
Getting back story on everyone's history was great, and whilst I knew the twist about medusa from the first mention in the book, I'm not mad about it. I read a lot, so it takes a lot to get me with a twist 😂. I also saw the whole fluffy Jr coming too.
The animals were all so on point, so funny and so well written. Nyx will always be my everything though, what a perfect character.
The romance, once I had let go the marketing and book one, I absolutely loved. Was giving all the dark romance vibes, almost a little mafia personality wise.
After letting go of expectations, I had the best time with this book! My hubby was laughing saying you went from 3 hrs in IM DNFing THIS to I FREAKING LOVE THIS 🤣
I've seen a lot of people upset about the why choose aspect which the author revealed on her socials before release was not a thing. Also, a lot of backlash on the completely different character personalities. Whilst I agree with both, put aside this book is actually better than the first.
I think this is the first 5 star I've ever given that has negatives, and I nearly DNFd. What can I say? 5 Star is a feeling for sure, and I had so much fun, which sometimes is just what's needed from a book.

Edited as I forgot to talk about the audio!!!! I highly recommend the audiobook, it's multi cast and soooo good!!! The narrators brought this story to life, the sound effects, chanting, different characters. It was such a good listen!

Meg is quite literally one of my favorite female narrators. Everyone else did a great job too but she always stands out. I'm not too keen on Patro's voice as it sounded like every sentence ended in an exclamation (!) Slightly robotic tone. I'm looking forward the new trio but will be hesitant if the whole book will be voiced by him :(

The story itself was a bit hectic and I feel like I should've paid more attention whilst listening but I still had a great time. Alexis inner monologue was very amusing. Nyx is the best.
