Just a reminder, 6 Vikings are shipwrecked on an island which is only inhabited by women. Their men mostly fell victim to what they call 'the happening'. Those who didn't die got in their longboats and quickly sailed away. None of the women were affected, so the men who survived were quick to blame them for what happened.
When the 6 strangers were stranded on their shores, the women decided to keep them there, by force if necessary. They would help them recover from any injuries, and then use them to get every woman there pregnant!
The first three books in the series were about 3 of the men and the women charged with their care. These last three books are about the remaining 3 men and their women. We have Viggo and Signey, Rutger and Grethe, and Jorgan and Astrid's stories. The couples share some very passionate moments, they have a lot of sex, and one couple even uses sex toys. Who knew that they used things like that in those times?
There is more to these books than just the attempts to get the women pregnant. There are some dark moments, murder plots, escape plots, etc, emotional moments, and even romantic moments. For me, some of the best moments were the comedic ones. I laughed out loud a few times while I listened to this book. One of the funniest bits involves a goat, but I will say no more! There was a definite need for the comedy because it helped lighten up what could have been a set of dark stories.
Of course, with all the rutting going on, and the men sneakily trying to repair their longboat so they can return home, they are slow to notice the island is starting to show 'signs' of getting ready to cause problems again. Will what happened to the men before happen again, or will everybody's life be in danger? We also, in the final book, finally find out the plight of Rangvald and Elin, who were featured in the third book of the series!
I loved how this series concluded, how we find out what caused the men to die before, and what threatens to kill again. Each couple had a satisfying, happy ending after enduring much, and I finished listening to their stories with a smile on my face.
