About this listen

When Bailey’s new boss turns out to be his childhood bully, a.k.a. Jake the Jerk, it’s time to call in backup for the upcoming corporate retreat in Vegas. Too bad Bailey works too much to date. His best option is to ask his very straight roommate to play the part of temporary boyfriend, even if Gordo is better with pythons than he is with people.

Except Bailey and Gordo haven’t even checked into the hotel and Jake the Jerk is already everywhere. The pressure is on for Bailey to prove he deserves to climb the corporate ladder, but it’s hard to talk shop as Gordo goes from backup to an increasingly attractive distraction. Bailey’s trying to keep his cool, schmooze the executives, and stick to the plan, even though Gordo’s not playing by any of the rules. They’ve always been just friends, but maybe it’s time to be boyfriends...with full benefits.

Boyfriend with Benefits is a 37,000-word contemporary M/M romance novella. It features fake boyfriends who might not be so fake, a hotel room with only one bed, and a James Bond moment in a tiny blue bathing suit. Happily ever after guaranteed.

Quirky and cute main characters. Bailey’s observations are amusing. Gordo is almost too perfect but it’s a pleasant ‘friends to lovers’ trope done well. The corporate setting allows for some neat twists in the plot. I enjoyed this relatively short, lightweight tale.

The narrator did a very good job. Pace and clarity and delineation of characters were all excellent.

I expected to like the friends to lovers romance in this novella, but I did not expect to get as caught up in the workplace drama as I did. Perhaps being away from work and at home during the pandemic made peeking behind the scenes of this workplace so interesting. Jake is an awful person and apparently has been from his youth. He is the perfect motivator to get Bailey and Gordo together. Gordo is a dream. As he finds his feelings for Bailey becoming more complex, we see him as the wonderful, caring man he is. And face it, anyone who is into snakes and baking has to be interesting, right? Loved the story and the characters here. Toby James did an excellent job of keeping the workplace details as interesting as when read and capturing the deepening relationship between Bailey and Gordo.

Interesting workplace details and great characters

Boyfriend with Benefits was a sweet and cute story that left me smiling at the end. I enjoyed listening to the audiobook which was narrated by Toby James. Toby is a new-to-me narrator and he does a nice job of voicing the characters and narrating events. I absolutely love how he voices Gordo, one of the main characters.

Bailey finds himself in a bind. He needs a fake boyfriend fast. This is where Gordo, Bailey's roommate and friend, comes in. What's meant to be a temporary solution soon develops into something more and completely changes Bailey's life path. I loved Gordo and his eccentric hobbies and mannerisms. He fit with Bailey perfectly and their relationship was so sweet and adorable. This was a fun book which I enjoyed a lot.

Sweet and Fun

Allison Temple never lets me down and this time she's written one of my favourite character types in Gordo. A ginger, bearded, mountain of a man that bakes and loves animals. But Gordo is not the POV character for this story, that is his roommate, Bailey, a ball of pent up work stress whose childhood bully has recently made a reappearance.
Even with Bailey's blinkered POV the fact Gordo cares for him is obvious to the reader. So when Bailey asks Gordo to be his fake boyfriend for a weekend work shindig there is only one way for this to go.
Their road to a relationship is fun, infuriating and lovely. I adored the epilogue and the change Gordo made to Bailey's life.
The narrator did an excellent job of bring these characters to life.

Love a gentle giant

This is a story that I enjoyed to listen to. The narrater is new to me but I liked him. And the story between Bailey and Gordo worked and the fit together. I liked that the book was shorter but a great story!

Easy to listen to
