Summary

First in a new Regency romance series featuring noble gentlemen and the ladies who help them love again.

Widower Benjamin Romilly, earl of Furness, lives a melancholy life. The loss of his wife in childbirth four years before has robbed him of all happiness. He can barely look at his son, who resembles his mother so strongly and is a constant reminder of her loss.

But Jean Saunders, a relative of Benjamin's late wife, erupts into the grief-stricken household to restore order and take Benjamin's son away. From all Jean has heard, she assumes he won't care - but she doesn't know how wrong she is.

As they come together to raise Geoffrey right, their budding attraction is undeniable. And when a nosy neighbor gets in their way, Jean has to face her darkest fears before all is made right.

Characters are complex and the little boy is very well drawn- he’s funny and also quite neglected, which is an unusual combination in fiction but is common in real life as people protect themselves from rejection.

The mean neighbour is also very well done!

Good story, narration and cyaracters BUT the one fault is that it’s a bit slow in places.

Extremely clever and funny depiction of the little boy

Loved the heroine, nice story flow, excellent narration as expected. Written with humor and I liked the surprise of the heroine's sentimental issues.

Nice story and narration

Nothing at all. I enjoyed it in its entirety. Sometime these stories can be a bit banal.

The intrigue .more so than usual.

The earl's depression after his wife's death is extreme and he wallows in his loss. The heroine has suffered physically and mentally at the hands of an unhinged mother. The children are the real heroes of the story. Lots of angst but there are no 'shock! horror!' moments.

Tortured souls

A very well written story, easy to submerge oneself in, with likeable characters. The narrator did an excellent job - no, more than that, it was perfect in every way. Audible has very, very few narrators equally capable.
I really enjoyed this book - highly recommended.
