I listened to this because I wanted a clearer picture of how recovery affects everyone involved, and it honestly helped a lot. The way the ideas were explained made things feel more human and less confusing. I liked that it talked about the struggles without judging anyone.

As a non-addict, I loved the first chapter, which gave me an insight into substance misuse. This set the foundation for the rest of the book, which takes you through many techniques, starting with those suited to people in the early stages of recovery and progressing to tactics for living a long and meaningful life. This felt very poignant given the introduction, which mentioned some people by name who hadn't made it, as well as many who had. I thoroughly recommend this book to anyone who wants to support an addict as they become sober.

As someone who has been very close to several addicts over his life, you learn that you have to have a plan for how to take care of yourself as you're going through the situation. This book is very compassionate. It understands the realities of what goes on, and it gives you thoughtful ideas on how you should contextualize the addiction and the needs in your life.
I think this is going to help a lot of people.

I really loved how the author addressed both those struggling or who have struggled with addiction and the people in their life. This means anyone connected with addiction on either side of the coin can benefit from this book by getting valuable information, and understanding of how addiction works and what to watch for, for example. Throughout, stories from real people help demonstrate points. I would definitely recommend this to anyone dealing with addiction themself or someone who is in the sphere of someone who is/was addicted.
