About this listen

When a chance at being a bridesmaid turns into a chance at being a bride, how can she possibly refuse?

Hudson Hopper is in trouble. After doing his business partner Jude a favor by hiring Jude’s younger sister Sloane, Hudson very quickly finds out that she is a massive distraction—especially since she’s now his assistant.

Things get more complicated when Hudson volunteers Sloane to fill in as a bridesmaid for a potential client, and she agrees…with certain stipulations. She’ll be a part of the Regency wedding—corset and all—if Hudson marries her. Sloane knows the value of the trade: he needs her to get into a high-society club to help secure his business deal, and she could use a down payment to secure her childhood home in return.

It’s an instant no from Hudson at first, but when she convinces him that no one will find out, including her brother, and points out how he will benefit from the marriage too…well, Hudson might just find himself saying “I do.”

Oh my gosh. This is THE funniest and most entertaining audio I’ve listened to in a looooong time. So many laugh out loud moments in this hilarious, forbidden, fake marriage, slow burn, age gap romance. That’s a lot of tropes right there, and I love them all. Hudson, the serious and grumpy, keeps himself on the straight and narrow stuck up suit, is led astray by Sloane, the super fun, regularly puts her foot in her mouth (cue verbal diarrhoea), and who pushes all the boundaries. They’re hilarious together, both their inner thoughts had me laughing out loud (and seeing as though I was listening to the audio version with my earbuds in, I was getting a few odd looks from passers by whilst I was out and about), I pretty much had a permanent smile on my face. Sloane’s inner musings were so funny, and the banter and bickering between Sloane and Hudson, priceless. Too many priceless moments to write down, but I will say this, Sloane’s inner musings, along with her text threads to her twin sister were hilarious. Narrated in duet by Vanessa Edwin and Jason Clarke who were absolutely brilliant in their portrayal of Sloane and Hudson. Flipping loved every bit of it.
