He was built to be bulletproof. She's the one thing that can break him.

Briar Thornton has spent months outrunning her past, but when she's drawn to the small Montana town of Bane Falls with the death of her late uncle and his estate to handle, she runs straight into a new nightmare—and a man more dangerous than the one who tried to kill her.

Roman Syxx isn't a savior. He's a weapon—cold, precise, and programmed by the Dark Forces to destroy anything and anyone. As the lieutenant of the covert Icarus Squad, he's in Bane Falls on orders: infiltrate, eliminate, disappear. But the new girl that randomly shows up in the small town fractures his control in ways no enemy ever could.

Drawn together by their traumas, they burn through each other's defenses until love feels as lethal as war. And when Briar's hidden connection to Roman's mission is exposed, both will learn that freedom always comes with a body count.

narrators did a great job 👏
I love this world and it was so much fun going back into it. This one isnt as hard core or dark as the other books in this series but I loved it . I wish the ending had been slightly different because it felt more like a HFN.

I really do enjoy the Dark Forces books, it's not a genre I'd have picked if I hadn't happened across them by reading/listening to other K M Moronova books of other genres (also good) the early parts of this one gave me "Flock" vibes overall this is probably a bit more unhinged, I also enjoyed how this tied in to the previous books and I hope there are going to be more,

This was one of my most anticipated releases of the year, so it pains me a little to say this wasn't quite the hit I was hoping for.
Bulletproof drops us back into the dark, chaotic world of the Dark Forces universe, packed with danger, secrets, morally grey characters, and the kind of tension that keeps you questioning everyone's motives. The story follows a FMC who finds herself caught up in a world where trust is a luxury and survival is never guaranteed.

Unfortunately, this one took me over 10 days to finish, which for me is usually a sign that something isn't fully clicking. I initially tried reading it on Kindle but found myself struggling to pick it up. Whether that's because life got busy or because the story wasn't pulling me in as much as I'd hoped, I'm not entirely sure.

The pacing felt quite slow throughout a large portion of the book, and while I enjoyed being back in the Dark Forces world, this story felt a little disconnected from the rest of the series for me. I also struggled to connect with the FMC at times, and I never became fully invested in the boys or their relationships.

That said, things definitely picked up towards the end. No spoilers, but the final portion of the book finally delivered the intrigue, tension, and "I need to know what happens next" feeling I'd been waiting for. If the entire book had matched the energy of those last chapters, this rating would have been much higher.

One thing that absolutely helped was switching to the audiobook. I ended up buying it and flew through the story much faster once I started listening. The narrators did a fantastic job bringing the characters to life, and I'd definitely recommend the audio format if you're thinking of picking this one up.

Overall, while it didn't completely live up to my expectations, I'm still invested in this world and curious to see where K.M. Moronova writes next.

⭐ 3.75/5 Dark themes, morally grey characters, found family vibes, and an ending that finally hooked me. 🖤📚
