About this listen

This is the story of a tank regiment: the 2nd Fife and Forfar Yeomanry in the Second World War. Raw and visceral personal recollections from the men themselves recall some of the most dramatic and horrific scenes imaginable--the sheer nerve-wracking tension of serving in highly inflammable Sherman tanks, the sudden impact of German shells, the desperate scramble to bail out, and the awful fate of those who couldn't. Even if they made it out of the tank, they were still vulnerable to being brutally cut down by German infantry.

Yet amidst these horrors, the humanity of these men shines through. And as we follow in their tracks, through letters, diaries, and eye-witness accounts, they will change how we think about tank warfare forever.

What I love about this is it is full of first hand accounts by people that were there. What is also nice is it goes right tbrough to the end of the war and beyond.

Accounts of people actually there. Excellent

So many books talk about strategic planning etc. This gives an interesting grass roots level view of 6 years of war, from the mundane to the terrifying.

Excellent story of people going to war

Having read Brothers in Arms, I didn’t think the book would live up to expectations. Fear not, I love this book and I’ll definitely listen to it again.

Another brilliant account of the Second World War

This was a fantastic listen, couldn’t put it down. The stories are really good and you get to know the characters. The only negative is the repetition of ‘2nd F&FY’ after every paragraph. Other than that, brilliant.
