Summary

'Outstanding ... a constantly surprising series' THE NEW YORK TIMES

There is more to solving a crime than following the clues.
Welcome to Chief Inspector Gamache's world of facts and feelings.

As Quebec City shivers in the grip of winter, its ancient stone walls cracking in the cold, Chief Inspector Armand Gamache plunges into the strangest case of his celebrated career.

A man has been brutally murdered in one of the city's oldest buildings - a library where the English citizens of Quebec safeguard their history. And the death opens a door into the past, exposing a mystery that has lain dormant for centuries . . . a mystery Gamache must solve if he's to catch a present-day killer.

Bury Your Dead has two intelligent plots and, as a bonus, you get to know a bit of Canadian history
The author brings the intriguing story to life using ornate descriptions

But the story dragged a bit in the middle. Will still be getting the next one though …..

Narration seemed less harsh than previous volume

This is book 6 of a series, so best not to start here, but as a lover of these wonderful stories this sophisticated triple tales approach had me gripped. I cried, laughed and sighed at each twist and turn. Characters that fill out a little in each book as other facets of them are revealed. The sidekick’s coming of age trajectory. The waspish eccentric poet (an unkind self parody perhaps). The people who are not all good or all bad, but human.
Thoroughly enjoyable - can’t wait for the next one.

Sublime storytelling

I thought Louise Penny really upped her game even further with this the sixth Inspector Gamache novel. Not just a development of the Three Pines stories but embracing the difficult political and social scene in Quebec City to give a great insight into the still smouldering tensions between the French and English communities. The narrator does a superlative job throughout and is one of the key reasons I'm binge listening this series.

The best so far

I've enjoyed all the books so far in this series but this is my favourite.Three intertwined story threads each of them fascinating meant that I listened to this at every possible moment. There is a mix of location and time and a drawing together of past narratives, altogether great value

Three investigations in one book

Really living this series. So worth while reading them in order. Love finding out more and more about the characters. Makes me want to visit Quebec, wish 3 Pines was real.

Getting to know characters even more.
