When it comes to providing care for someone who has dementia or Alzheimer's, (I took care of and 83 old men with both of this illnesses, and didn't have a guide to help me. This is the greatest book that I wish I had it back then. It addresses every facet of providing care in an understanding, informed, and useful manner. This book helps and empowers you throughout this difficult path, not just provides information. The author's personal stories are accessible, and it's clear from them that she wants to help others because of her personal connection to the subject. Since I am aware that caring for others can be emotionally taxing, I must admit that I had a somewhat pessimistic view of it. Now, however, I see it as a privilege and an opportunity. Additionally, I appreciate the comprehensive solutions for handling communication difficulties that were offered, taking into account the various stages of the illness. I feel more assured because the author of this guide didn't leave anything out. This book is definitely a must-have for other caregivers to have on their path.

Recently, we hired several people to be companions for my Mom. She had a stroke several years ago and never really regained her balance, and has been more and more prone to falling as the months have gone by. We were really happy to be able to find people to hire to care for her (we work full time and are still raising kids), but I can see that though they are kind-hearted, we are going to have to do some training. I got this book to see if it would be helpful in the training department... it is a little heavy on the legal/financial area for them (but helpful to me) so I will be sharing the compassion, and stress burnout sections with them. Thanks for a solid look at so many dimensions of this difficult journey for the care givers.

When a person is diagnosed with dementia or Alzheimer's, it can be disorienting not only to the patient but to any loved ones who are caregivers, as well. Oftentimes, they are at a loss as to where to start or what to do next. Without the necessary tools and information, they can't effectively supervise their loved one with Dementia or Alzheimer's, much less themselves. This audiobook attempts to remedy that. In a caring and concise way, the author provides ways for caregivers to take charge and feel confident in the care they are providing while successfully balancing their own quality of life. I found the part on how to prepare your home to keep the patient safe in any part of the house or yard, especially enlightening. Also helpful was the chapter on finances and legal matters. Taking care of a person with Dementia or Alzheimer's is probably one of the most difficult tasks a person will face in their lifetime, and this audiobook walks you through the most common challenges caregivers face, including what they can take care of on their own and when it's time to bring in outside help. It can be a tremendous help to first-time Dementia and Alzheimer's caregivers who don't have an inkling about how to start or where to turn for help. Turn to this audiobook to start.
