He'd hoped after reuniting with his father and exploring his relationship with Colton, he'd have some to settle into his new life. Instead, he's asked to investigate the attacks.

After inspecting some of the fallen Indian towers, he realizes the British occupation may be sparking more than just attacks. And as Danny and Colton unravel more secrets about their past, they find themselves on a dark and dangerous path - one from which they may never return.

In book 2 clock mechanic Danny Hart finds himself ensnared in a web of mystery and uncertainty, keenly aware of an elusive watcher whose identity remains shrouded in secrecy. The backdrop unfolds against the unsettling clock towers toppling in India, a portentous sign that time itself has yet to come to a standstill.

Having initially hoped for a period of respite and normalcy after reuniting with his father and exploring the nuances of his relationship with Colton, Danny's expectations are shattered when he's thrust into a new investigation. Tasked with delving into the root cause of the attacks on the Indian clock towers, Danny discovers a disturbing correlation with the British occupation, hinting at a deeper and more nefarious plot.

As the intricate storyline unfolds, however, my disappointment begins to take root. The absence of a conclusive ending leaves a lingering dissatisfaction, and the introduction of new characters with diabolical tendencies proves to be a narrative misstep. Their lack of redeeming qualities makes it challenging to summon any sympathy, leading to a sense of detachment from the unfolding events.

Despite these reservations, one aspect of the narrative manages to evoke a positive response – the steamy and passionate romantic scenes between Colton and Danny. These moments of intimacy provide a respite from the overarching mystery and offer a glimpse into the complex dynamics of their relationship. The palpable chemistry between the characters adds a layer of depth to the story, creating moments that are both tender and intense.

While the first book in the series seemed to offer a satisfactory conclusion, the second installment leaves much to be desired. Nonetheless, there's a lingering curiosity that prompts me to continue with the third and final audiobook in the series. Perhaps the allure of the steamy romance and the hope for a more conclusive resolution will prove compelling enough to overcome the narrative shortcomings encountered thus far.

Unforgivable new characters and no ending, steamy love though

I struggled with the pace of the story for the first half. But don't give up, it's worth it! Narration was top notch. Overall, solid 4 stars. Looking forward to start the next (hope it's the same narrator).

worth it

Much better than the first instalment but as with the first, its main goal is to foist this relationship on you when really, all you actually want to know is the plot and its twists. The overriding takeaway is the relationship; which it appears IS the whole plot, twists and story, whilst the rest of it happens to be incidental. However if the whole thing was fleshed out, then it could be as great as the concept itself.

Alright-ish….
