I’ve done many of the great courses as audiobooks, and I’ve always enjoyed them. I very much enjoyed this one too, however there are many references to what is being shown on a slide or shown in a lab. This doesn’t translate very well to audio. He also describes many chemical properties as laws and formulas, which he writes out and then explains algebraically in terms of changing the formula. I had to pause the audio and write these out myself and then guess how he was rearranging them based on what was said. The accompanying PDF is helpful but not in these moments. For this reason, I think I needed to share my feedback. Good luck to you on this course, it took me longer than any other.

This is the most challenging of all the courses I’ve done

Lectures were designed for video, making many parts hard to follow, especially when solving formulas.

Not really suitable as audio-only lectures.

This course was made as a video lecture, as were other Great Courses, but in this case there was no consideration given to the audio only version. It was hugely annoying to regularly hear "..so this interacts with that to produce this here..." having no idea what this or that is. The Don Lincoln lectures have a narative and supporting pdf that makes them great for audio only. Chemistry doesn't!
However the material is excellent and the presentation is good so, if you only pay 1 audible credit for this course, you are still getting good value, even though you won't be able to understand the whole course. Wikipedia helps fill in the gaps.

This is the second time I bought an audio of the great courses that was recorded as a video. It just does not work and we obviously miss out on the visuals. Secondly I don’t think we should be paying full price when we’re not getting the full experience. It would be even better if TGC should make the video content available to us. But in the meantime I will be returning this one too.

This was irritating and frustrating as it was obviously taken from a filmed series of lectures and not made as an audiobook. Experiments were not described but we are told to see what is happening. I gave up.
