About this listen

Will Burgess is used to hard knocks. Abandoned by his father, son of a drug-addicted mother, and charged with raising his six-year-old sister, Will has far more to worry about than most high school freshmen. To make matters worse, Mia Samuels, the girl of Will’s dreams, is dating his worst enemy, the most sadistic upperclassman at Shadeland High. Will’s troubles, however, are just beginning. Because one of the nation’s most notorious criminals - the Moonlight Killer - has escaped from prison and is headed straight toward Will’s hometown. And something else is lurking in Savage Hollow, the forest surrounding Will’s rundown house. Something ancient and infinitely evil. When the worst storm of the decade descends on Shadeland, Will and his friends must confront unfathomable horrors. Everyone Will loves - his mother, his little sister, Mia, and his friends - will be threatened. And very few of them will escape with their lives.

Janz's Children Of The Dark is terrifying for all the right reasons; small town suspicions, indigenous American tales of Wendigos, and very real, very savage monsters both human and not. The reason the terror grips you is because of the main character Will. You see his troubled home life with an addict parent, him caring for his baby sister and his attempts at romance with a girl at school. If this story was just a drama about Will's life that'd be good enough because Janz makes you care about him, so when the monsters arrive in the story you're scared for him and feel his fear at seeing his loved ones in danger. Janz's disgustingly detailed monsters and gore soaked scenes make your pulse quicken and sneaks a phantom smell of blood up your nostrils. The narrator did a brilliant job conveying a wide cast of characters and the onslaught of emotions they go through. I'm a instant fan now of Johnathan Janz and have already downloaded the sequel to this story.

A Small Town Tale Of Terror destined to become a horror classic
