Summary

A unique cocktail of personal memoir, cultural criticism and Hollywood history by the one and only Quentin Tarantino.

The long-awaited first work of nonfiction from the author of the number one New York Times bestselling Once Upon a Time in Hollywood: a deliriously entertaining, wickedly intelligent cinema book as unique and creative as anything by Quentin Tarantino.

In addition to being among the most celebrated of contemporary filmmakers, Quentin Tarantino is possibly the most joyously infectious movie lover alive. For years he has touted in interviews his eventual turn to writing books about films.

Now, with CINEMA SPECULATION, the time has come, and the results are everything his passionate fans - and all movie lovers - could have hoped for.

Organized around key American films from the 1970s, all of which he first saw as a young moviegoer at the time, this book is as intellectually rigorous and insightful as it is rollicking and entertaining.

At once film criticism, film theory, a feat of reporting, and wonderful personal history, it is all written in the singular voice recognizable immediately as QT's and with the rare perspective about cinema possible only from one of the greatest practitioners of the artform ever.

What a book. Incredible. 9 hours of QT waxing lyrical about the movies that made him.

Incredible!

A genuinely fascinating book covering the films that made Tarantino the writer/director he is. The voice is that of a real cinema obsessive with the wit and intellect to deconstruct without ruining the movies he discusses, something that many critics cannot do. If you like Tarantino's movies, if you just like movies and especially if you like the harder, weirder edges of Hollywood then this is THE book for you.

I agree with those who say that it's a shame that Quent didn't read the whole thing but don't let it put you off that he didn't, Ballerini does a beautiful job of getting Tarantino's inflexions and cadences without overtly mimicking him, making it a real pleasure to listen to. It flows and you smile when you're supposed to, this book is a treasure.

Just brilliant, I hope Quentin writes another.

Loved both narrators and found the content absolutely fascinating. So many films I haven’t seen that I will definitely watch now; others that I have and really enjoyed QTs take on them eg Rocky.
Gutted that it’s over!

Fascinating

Terrific book, written with humour and love. Makes you want to revisit (or watch for the first time) many of the classic and not so classic movies of Tarantino’s youth. It also makes you long for the days of double bills and non multiplex cinema visits, whether you were there or not. You get the occasional nod or reference to his own movies but this is about the movies he grew up with and the people that influenced him. Although Tarantino only reads the first chapter and some notes toward the end of this audiobook, you can “hear”his voice throughout. Recommended. Be prepared to Google many a name!

Great stories about iconic films (and others!)

Quentin’s love for his early, life-forming experiences at his local cinemas is infectious, informative and feckin’ funny.
