About this listen

Leaders are forged in the fires of war. Iron Age warriors Dug and Lowa captured Maidun castle and freed its slaves. But now they have conquered it, they must defend it.

A Roman invasion is coming from Gaul, but rather than uniting to protect their home, the British tribes battle each other - and see Maidun as an easy target.

Meanwhile Lowa's spies infiltrate Gaul, discovering the Romans have recruited bloodthirsty British druids, and Maidunite Ragnall finds his loyalties torn when he meets Rome's charismatic general, Julius Caesar.

First, the narrator on this is to be highly praised. Turns out it's not just kids who love it when people 'do the voices'.
The book is a fun adventure story where the writer mixes fact with (intelligent) guess work to create compelling characters that you care about. before listening I was concerned the story would lose momentum, but I had nothing to be worried about!

Another quality tale of pre-Roman adventure

For me a perfect blend of Joe Abercrombie, Bernard Cornwall and a smidgen of Patrick Rothfuss. Second book as good as or better than first.

Just so good

absolutely loved it. characterisation is just fantastic. So refreshing to hear some Scottish and other British accents. as the author states based loosely on real events with a huge chunk of imagination and story telling!

Just Brill

Would you consider the audio edition of Clash of Iron to be better than the print version?

The book is just as well written as the first in the series and the performance of Sean Barrett is just as wonderful as it was in age of iron. The story picks up JUST where it left off in the previous book. The story takes a darker tone this time around and takes a more serious approach. However Angus Watson still finds ways to throw in a good joke or exchange between characters here and there throughout the book that should make you smile smile if you enjoyed them in the first book. Angus Watson makes good use of well known characters and more than a few new ones to weave an Exciting and emotional story that really draws you in and pulls on your heart strings. Just like in the first book, a lot of research has gone into the making of this book, making the different factions and characters more believable. in contrast to the first book were the whole story took place in Britain, this time around we get to see more on this wonderful world as the story takes us to Rome, Gaul (France) and even shortly to Eru (Ireland). The performance of Sean Barrett is again amazing as he manages to make every character sound distinctly different, giving them a sense of character beyond just their descriptions. Over all this audio-book is even better the first in the series and one of the best out there.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
