The most important takeaway from this book for me was this: you might think empathetic listening takes time to develop and it is true that it does. However, it takes FAR LESS time and energy than trying to correct the problems which come about when we don't listen well and speak clearly. This book is a must read & have on your shelf to refer back to & relisten. Most problems in relationships happen due to the lack of effective communication. I had purchased this book to review for my soft skills class. I teach soft skills to men incarcerated in my local prison, and needed something that was easy to listen, comprehend and without a lot of fluff.
