Discover Thomas Mann's comic novel of deception and misplaced confidence.

Waiter by day, man about Paris by night; the young and good looking Felix Krull has created for himself a personality to charm and deceive the world of wealth. "The most astonishing work that Mann ever wrote and also one of the most perfect"—Edwin Muir

A great piece as it stands. Sad all the same that we have only this first part of Krull’s life. We are left speculating how it will end and what adventures await. One of the most immediately accessible of Mann’s works. A delight.

An entertainment from the master.

A late work of Thomas Mann, Felix Krull is deliciously elegant and funny to start with, but the energy and tension drop in the rest of the (unfinished) book, which consists of a series of uninspiring descriptions. Surprising. And sad that he was capable of dullness, given his great genius.

Witty first half!
