About this listen

Meet Milligan Clodthorpe, a gentleman arachnid of exceptional lineage who finds himself involuntarily inhabiting the body of a human female. Bainbridge, the cad who now inhabits Milligan's arachnid form, is known throughout the galaxy as thoroughly selfish and uncivilized. What he might get up to with a body such as Milligan's simply does not bear thinking about. With the help of Milligan';s mechanical valet Forsythe, his revered Uncle Angus, his psychotic cousin Gertrude, and Pigstick, his former comrade in arms, he must recover his arachnid body and prevent Bainbridge from disgracing his family name.

Through twists and turns, Milligan's pursuit leads him into thrilling adventures. Be prepared for daring espionage, scandalous scenes, and perilous levels of dry wit.

Would you listen to Confessions of a Gentleman Arachnid again? Why?

I really would... It was really funny and I think I missed a load of the references the first time round.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Probably Milligan. He was entertainingly dumb but had a darkness to him that made him really compelling.

What does Thom Tuck bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Thom is clearly fantastic. He gets the atmosphere perfectly.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Both of those actually! There are plenty of jokes but it does get quite emotionally tough at times.

Any additional comments?

It's not a perfect book by any means but it's really good fun and I'd happily recommend it.

Really fun!

After a slightly slow start, Confessions of a Gentleman Arachnid jumps to life thanks to a silly but highly entertaining story and likeable characters.

As an audio book, I was really impressed with the narration, with Thom Tuck bringing the plot and its protagonists to life, and having them sound nearly exactly as I had expected.

Quirky and witty space romp

Though this had good reviews I found it silly and a bit convoluted, it irritated me as a result, but it may just be that I didn't quite get the humour.

Just didn't get it
