Summary
Tough times bring hard decisions.
The survivors of Cloverdale, Indiana band together in an effort to scratch out an existence among the charred remains of their town. With Vince Walker as their reluctant leader, the small group struggles to rebuild what they can while striving to maintaining their humanity.
Each fresh sunrise presents them with the opportunity for redemption, along with the chance of failure. Nothing in this new world comes easy and teamwork becomes more important than ever.
As new people begin to show up in Cloverdale their group grows in size. Some of the additions are welcome assets, but others are not. Trust is a hard won commodity.
Vince knows there are some tough decisions ahead for him and the others due to the limited resources of the town. But none of that will matter if they can’t hold out against a gang of looters with revenge on their minds. The survivors are about to have their resolve tested in ways they haven’t even imagined.
Gripping and believable

A few things have been bothering me since the start of this series:
1) It beggars belief that only a handful of people would survive an EMP in a small rural town.
2) An EMP wouldn’t burn down virtually every house in a neighbourhood - it may not even fry - permanently - everything electrical.
3) Why on earth would anyone think about building a gaol in week one of the apocalypse? Don’t want someone in your town? Simple - kick them out or permanently eliminate them - no one in their right mind would waste resources locking people up.
4) The mysterious attackers are RAIDERS not looters 🙈 and why on earth would they keep attacking one well-defended place?
5) Why does no one search the empty houses for supplies? There’s no way Vince wouldn’t have retrieved his guns by day two, ditto Mary’s animals.
6) It’s a no-brainer that having a vet in any apocalypse is about a 1000 times better than having a doctor. Vets are all-rounders, capable of carrying out a wide range of operations- Reece is a much better catch than any GP, (but, of course, she’s just a girl!)
7) How on earth do Vince and Mary go from smiling at each other over coffee pre-EMP to sharing a room with ZERO explanation? (This probably bothered me the most!)
8) Calling Vince ‘Major’ is pretty weird - if his nickname was ‘the Major’ it would make more sense.
9) Vince repeats the same things over and over again and also contradicts himself regularly- one minute they need more people, but in the next, extra people would be a drain on resources, then back he flips to the other position.
10) Where are they going to the toilet?
This poor effort makes the Dark Road series look like Tolkien and doesn’t even have a conclusion. At least it was a free download. I can’t imagine anyone being willing to pay for it.
Nothing really happens - some spoilers on Books 1-3
