About this listen

These are very old stories and the narrator kept contracting words which only matches modern speech. It felt very anachronistic and so distracting in the beginning that I struggled with getting into the story.

Also the trouble will older stories is also that they can transmit antiquated values like how a girl should be obedient and self-sacrificing (first story - contrast with that of the brother who loves stories so much that he puts his family in trouble but that is easily excused because he’s a boy so he has the right to be a distracted dreamer while the girl must toil away to be equally rewarded with wealth and recognition?).

For the rest, the stories were pleasant especially because I’m always intrigued by other cultures and myths.

I did not appreciate the narrator
