I went to war, running away from myself. I came back in pieces to find out who I really was....

It took me nearly 10 years, two tours in Afghanistan, and losing a leg to come to terms with who I really am. Two years after coming back from war, I can say that I'm finally content. I'm as fit as ever, my prosthetic leg allowing me the freedom of moving and exercising as if nothing has changed. I own a small bakery in the centre of Cambridge, and I have a loyal circle of friends that I can always count on.

And yet....

Yet, there's something missing. A part of me craves the intimacy, the deep connection to another human being. But another - bigger - part of me is terrified of letting anyone in.

My internal conflict didn't stand a chance when I met Jay. He stormed through my defence walls like a hurricane, wrapping around me with gentle force until I had no choice but to surrender.

The story is always 4 or 5 stars, because if I wouldn't like the story as ebook, I wouldn't listen to the audiobook.

The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. It took me a little bit, to come into the narrator, but at the end, it worked. I only have to take a few breaks between. I'm just not yet finish with the book, but I listen enough to give a review.

I loved this as a book, so was eager to hear the audio. Alexander Doddy does a good job of the voices and characters of all the players. I just didn't understand some of the phrasing, the odd stop mid sentence in an awkward place.
I'd definitely recommend this to anyone that likes low angst, but plenty of feeling.

Wonderful feel good read

"Cookies" is a very cute story about Amir and Jay and how they fell in love. There is only small angst/drama in this story and it's a perfect book if you're searching for something sweet.

The narrator Alexander Doddy has a good voice and did a wonderful job converting the emotions of the characters but unfortunately he makes some long & strange pauses while narrating this book. That's why it feels for me like the flow of the audiobook is a bit disrupted.

Really loved the characters in this book. They had scars been through he'll and back but yet could still fall for another. New narrator to me and I really enjoyed his take on the characters
