About this listen
The day I started seeing ghosts, my life went to shit.
Too bad the Fates don't hand out gift receipts because, respectfully, I'd like a refund. Unfortunately, those meddlesome hags aren't even close to being done with me.
A powerful, destructive creature is on the prowl and threatens the existence of the universe. The only way to stop the creature is with equal destructive power. That's where I come in.
Not that I have any kind of destructive power of my own. That would have been way too cool. Instead, I've been tasked with acting as a supernatural dog walker for an equally powerful creature. Of course, said creature happens to be my ex from a previous life. Yeah, it's as messy as it sounds.
He's lost me once and will stop at nothing to possess me.
To cap it off, we're bound by a bond that makes me burn for him, even when I'm not sure I like the guy.
I'm fine, totally fine.
(I'm not fine).

No spoilers but WOW incredible read! Couldn’t wait for book 2!

Vivien is layered, broken, and shaped by deep trauma, which gives her real depth and makes her feel authentic. I love that she isn't static; there's definitely room for growth, and I'm sure she'll continue to evolve as the series progresses. Leon, on the other hand… no. He starts off tolerable and then quickly slides into morally grey territory, then to black, that leans hard into vicious, selfish, and misogynistic. What's presented as a mate bond feels more like outright abuse, especially when consent is dismissed entirely. That makes the so called 'spice' uncomfortable rather than appealing, and it's not a direction I'm enjoying right now.
That said, there's an underlying sense of more; and that's what keeps me invested. There's hope threaded through the darkness, especially with the lingering question of what happens when the collar comes off (if you know, you know). The story also takes a sharp turn from grounded to downright wacky very quickly, and while that shift caught me off guard in a not-entirely-good way, it was memorable. Vivien deserves more than Leon, and I'm holding onto the hope that future developments will reflect that. Even with my reservations, I'm invested enough to continue and see where book two takes us. I've given it 4 stars on here but it was a difficult one to weigh up. Just read it and see, though I'd advise you to read the trigger warnings first.
Interesting girl meets man from Atlantis.
