About this listen
In the House of the Dead he has been given a name. That name is Wakim, but Wakim knows that this name is not his true name not the name that he carried with him in life. Wakim has been commanded by his master Anubus to find and destroy The Prince Who Was A Thousand. Wakim leaves the House of the Dead intent on carrying out his mission to destroy The Prince Who Was A Thousand, but he has a second personal mission...to find his true name. And if he does Wakim cannot even imagine how that will change everything...
"A storyteller without peer. He created worlds as colorful and exotic and memorable as any our genre has ever seen." -George R.R. Martin
The book is better in some respects. Zelasny's use of space and poetry is very well done. The audiobook lacks the tempo of the book but it is a treat to hear.
I imagine some might find the book's treatment of women a little "old fashioned" (i.e. not exactly what you'd hope for) but the women are strong and do what they want to do (when they can).
The various threads of the story are fascinating. Makes me (again) want to research the Egyptian gods.
Many years ago I watched Gods of Egypt, hoping that it would have something of the magic of Creatures of Light and Darkness. No. Nothing like. In this book, Zelasny delivers a really fascinating world populated by intriguing characters.
