About this listen

Amelia Peabody inherited two things from her father: a considerable fortune and an unbendable will. The first allowed her to indulge in her life's passion. Without the second, the mummy's curse would have made corpses of them all.©2004 Elizabeth Peters (P)2004 Recorded Books Historical Mystery Fiction Funny Mummy Ancient Egypt Romance Cosy Middle East Suspense Ancient History Africa

This is light and easy reading. The mystery is secondary to the story; as other reviews have pointed out, it’s all quite predictable. The character of Amelia Peabody is simply hilarious & the dry wit brilliant. Manged to capture the atmosphere of the upper classes and and the remnants of the British Empire in Egypt. The narration was excellent. This is not my usual genre, but will most definitely be back for more, I fully intend to work my way through the series. I recommend you to give it go…

It was a very pleasant experience to listening to this book. Ms Rosenblat voice caught all Amelia's personality as well as the other characters's. I am looking forward to listening to the second book of the series.

Funny and enjoyable.

Have been looking for 'cozy mysteries' and found a recommendation for Elizabeth Peters on a website that reviews books.
Enter the infuriating Amelia Peabody;full of her own self importance, an expert on everything, I nearly gave up on her because she annoyed me so much. However, I like to finish a book once started and was determined to grit my teeth and persevere to the end. How glad I am that I did.
I don't necessarily like Amelia yet, but admire her gumption! The characters overall are not exactly likeable per se 'Emmerson and Peabody' are clothed in arrogance, caustic wit, yet they do spar off one another beautifully as they engage their minds to solve the mystery.
The narrative is brought to life by the excellent narration, her gruff Emmerson is a joy.
So on the verge on giving up to downloading the next in the series. I might just get to like Amelia!

Delightful writing which conjures up a time not so long ago, and yet so distant now. The mystery aspect was well hidden with subtle hints and twists so I didn’t guess what was going on. (Always a bonus if you are a mystery buff). I look forward to the next one.

Well worth a listen

If you want an enjoyable story with a bit of lighthearted tension then this is great. It lacks the over detailed gore and sexual violence that is so prevalent these days, something which I consider a benefit. It's more Agatha Christie with extra "jolly hockey sticks!".

Very enjoyable romp
