I survived a deployment because of her letters, so there's nothing I wouldn't do for her now...

I was fully prepared to come home in a box. In the dust of Afghanistan, I’d accepted that my life was worth exactly as much as the brothers standing beside me. But then the packages started arriving. My buddy's little sister quickly became my only tether to a world that made sense. And her letters kept me from losing my mind when the world went dark.

Somehow I managed to trade the battlefield for the Knightdale Charter, and since I've been home I've used the club’s business to drown out the echoes of war. I've never stopped thinking about her, but I've kept my distance from her world of soft edges and quiet dreams. We are opposites in every way. The only thing we have in common is her brother.

Then one phone call changes everything. She's drowning in grief and caught in the chaos that follows every soldier home from war. The moment she whispers my name, I'm done for. Now I can't stay away, but I can be the stoic shoulder she can cry on. Yet the moment she collapses into my arms, every instinct I have starts screaming a single truth: she's mine. And I don't just want to comfort her, I want to make her forget the pain.

She thinks she has to face this darkness on her own, but this woman's love carried me through a war. I leave no man behind, so she's not shouldering this burden alone. We'll get through this together, no matter what it takes.

Janice Infante Bosco brings another amazing installment to her Satan's Knights MC NC series! This one features Johnny aka Hawk and the story is not an easy one! He joined the MC after returning from Afghanistan, but while there, his support came from his friend's sister, Jo. She would send treats and letters, always bringing that ray of sunshine. When he came home though, he ghosted her and her heart was hurt. Jo calls him when her brother has past. He drops everything and comes to her side, not only to help with the therapy dog he gave to him, but to be there for her. And the story really begins. Bosco gives a true to life look at PTSD and how life is for some veterans when they return to civilian life. She also creates a wonderful love story for Johnny and Jo. It's a lot of emotional ups and downs, learning to trust and believe in each other. And she gives just enough suspense and thrills with the MC. This is a fantastic listen and should be added to your upcoming list!

Michael Norman Johnson and Sarah Puckett continue their narration of this series. These two work so well together, their voices just flow. The emotional turmoil is realistic and the passion they bring just adds to the spicy scenes. It's the perfect casting for this series!

When Jo was going through a devastating time she reached out to Hawk, her brother’s best friend, even though they were estranged. She expects that they would get through the turmoil and he would walk out of her life for a second time, so she is cautious about letting him into her heart and her life.

While Hawk was serving his country the one bright spot were the packages he would receive from Jo. When he returned he was having difficult adjusting to civilian life which meant distancing himself from her and finding a new life with the MC. Seeing her again he realizes what a mistake that was and now he needs to convince her to give him a second chance.

This is an emotional story about grief, guilt and second chances which includes a little suspense and a touching romance. Michael Norman Johnson brings out the protector in Hawk while Sarah Puckett brings out the strength of Jo.

Part of the Satan’s Knights MC (North Carolina) series, and I’m already hooked on these guys. What pulled me in first? 👉 The setting- so rare to see stories this close to home in the rural Southeast But what keeps me here?👉 These broken, loyal men (many former soldiers) working through PTSD, grief, and real-life struggles. This one centers on Johnny “Hawk” and Jo. 🐾 Hawk is a dog trainer who works with service animals for veterans (instant soft spot for me) ✨ (And yes… the furbaby gets steak grilled just for him as he rightfully should! Such a good boy! 😭❤️) Jo is the sister of a soldier Hawk owes his life to, and when tragedy strikes, Hawk drops everything to be there for her-and that emotional weight hits HARD (heed the trigger warnings)

💔 This story touches on triggers: PTSD, Addiction, Loss & suicide. I’ll be honest- this wasn’t my personal favorite in the series. I wanted more depth around the brother’s struggles and more time with the dog storyline.

But…
🎧 The narration is AMAZING as always
🖤 The emotional impact is real
❤️ Well written with banter and brotherly love (MC style, of course)
🔥 And it’s absolutely still worth the listen
This series continues to be one I’m invested in. 🙌

Already highly invested in this series

So when a tragedy happy the two come together. Josephine is struggling to keep her business going. Hawk wants to repay kindness with kindness. Kindness soon turns into more.
This book has it all, humour, chemistry, steam, action and a complete emotional roller coaster.

This audiobook is a strong example of how performance can elevate an emotional story. Sarah Puckett and Michael Norman Johnson deliver a polished duet narration with smooth transitions and clear character distinction.

At normal speed, the pacing is glacial. Truly sloth slow. But once bumped up significantly, the listening experience improves instantly.

Story-wise, Cross to Bear is less about MC drama and more about grief, loneliness, regret, and the tentative return of love after loss. The emotional weight lands well, and Joe’s journey feels genuine.

Special mention to Chestnut the service dog, who steals every scene with unwavering support and heart.

It’s a quick listen, emotionally grounded, and ideal when you need something shorter between bigger audio commitments.
