About this listen

Two murders. Two cities. One killer.

During the Edinburgh Festival, DCI Rob Marshall answers a call that lures him to Duddingston Loch, where he witnesses a woman drowning.

At the exact same time and hundreds of miles south in London, Met DI Sam Winter takes the exact same call–and can't save a man from burning to death near the Notting Hill carnival.

Someone is choreographing death across two cities, testing both detectives and forcing them to see what links the victims together—and themselves.

But when the calls turn personal, Marshall realises the next name on the list might be one of their own.

Cuts Both Ways continues the Rob Marshall series, this time on the streets of Edinburgh and London rather than the lanes of Scottish Borders, and introduces DI Sam Winter, whose own series starts in May 2026.

Another enjoyable book in the DI Rob Marshall series, everyone seems better than the previous ones. Working between cases in London and Edinburgh and trying to discover who amongst the detectives was Leaking information to the know drug dealer and who was the main culprit in the death of one of the friends

Another fantastic book in the DI Rob Marshall series. A complex series of murders in both Edinburgh and London making for a wonderful read. As usual the books are about more than just the case, and feature the ongoing relationships within Police Scotland, giving the story and characters even more depth. The introduction of Sam Winters made for a great dynamic between her and Marshall and I will definitely be reading her books when released later in 2026. Angus King is as always brilliant

Best book in the series.
