I’ve enjoyed all the Dalton Brisco, Gunfighter books so far as good old-fashioned Westerns that feel believable, at least to a point. This instalment, however, went a bit too far for my taste. The inclusion of ghostly Indians and subterranean monsters pushed the story well beyond credibility and made it feel somewhat silly compared to earlier stories in the series. That said, it was still a very entertaining listen overall. Malcolm Hotzman certainly knows how to keep the pace moving and the action engaging, even when the plot strays into the supernatural. Henry Marshall’s narration was outstanding once again and brought the story to life, almost. Despite my reservations about the storyline, I hope there will be more Dalton Brisco adventures to come.
