About this listen

Now a Netflix original series starring Austin Abrams and Midori Francis! A whirlwind holiday season romance from the New York Times bestselling authors of Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist.

“I’ve left some clues for you.
If you want them, turn the page.
If you don’t, put the book back on the shelf, please.”

16-year-old Lily has left a red notebook full of challenges on her favorite bookstore shelf, waiting for just the right guy to come along and accept its dares. Dash, in a bad mood during the holidays, happens to be the first guy to pick up the notebook and rise to its challenges.

What follows is a whirlwind romance as Dash and Lily trade dares, dreams, and desires in the notebook they pass back and forth at locations all across New York City. But can their in-person selves possibly connect as well as their notebook versions, or will their scavenger hunt end in a comic mismatch of disastrous proportions?

Co-written by Rachel Cohn (GINGERBREAD) and David Levithan, co-author of WILL GRAYSON, WILL GRAYSON with John Green (THE FAULT IN OUR STARS), DASH & LILY'S BOOK OF DARES is a love story that will have listeners scouring bookstore shelves, looking and longing for a love (and a red notebook) of their own.

At first I didn't like Lily's voice to much, but I got used to it. The story starts out really nice: the way they get to know each other by their dares to each other without meeting is cute and to get to know them was nice (allthough I liked Dash a little more, Lily seemed at first a little bit spoiled) the misunderstandings (seems like every love story needs them) were okay and the end was cute. It is a teenage novel, but I (38) could relaxe well while listening to it. But I am glad it wasn't any longer, that might have spoiled it. So if you are looking for some light hearted (is that spelled right?) entertainment, this book is for you.

nice little teenage romance

I loved this book! It is a cute little Christmas love story and although I listened to it in April it was still wonderfully magical. The back and forth between the two characters was joyful, cute and quirky, funny and one of a kind type of story. Definitely recommend to any other teen girls (though other may enjoy, I don't know) :)

Love it.

Dash & Lily's Book of Dares is an interesting and fairly short listen, however it seems to never really take off. Even though the premise is somewhat interesting and a lot of the themes explored will grab your attention; I felt myself yearning for a bit more exploration/depth at the end of each chapter. It's definitely a good plot with some well written segments however for me it just didn't hit the mark, and wouldn't be one I'd listen to again.

Good, but it failed to really go anywhere...

A hilarious romance between two great teenage characters with problems of their own, they bond over a red moleskin notebook that is passed back and forth throughout New York, accompanied by crazy dares in an attempt to outwit the other. With their feelings growing between them, they wonder if it would be the same if they met face to face; are they completely different in real life compared to their notebook selves? And would their romance crumble if they were ever to meet?

Initially, their accents made me question my enjoyability of the book, but the narrators are so expressive! Passing the narrative back and forth between them, they are fully convincing as main characters Dash and Lily and I grew rather fond of them!

Loved this book, the story was fantastic (especially as an audio), it was funny, sweet and unpredictable (except for the falling in love bit, that was obvious). I'm giving 4 stars for performance only because of my initial reaction!

(Those who are tempted but aren't fond of american accents, give this book a go! It's worth it, I promise you!)
