Four months ago, Netheia Isinthi failed to take her father’s throne from her older sister. After refusing to publicly support the new empress, she is banished to Ieflaria’s capital city, Birsgen, where she anticipates a long and uneventful exile.

Klavida of Nalova is a student at the university established by Princess Esofi for the study of magic. She has come from the far north researching Talcia’s creatures—or so she claims. After a chance meeting brings the two together, Klavida wants nothing to do with the angry, ill-mannered princess. But when Netheia offers Klavida access to the royal library, Klavida decides she can tolerate her after all.

As they spend time together, Klavida realizes that Netheia is intensely lonely and has never known genuine friendship. She becomes determined to show her that there is more to life than the pursuit of power and that a peaceful life of freedom can be more satisfying than ruling an empire.

But Netheia’s patron goddess is not ready to accept that she has lost the Xytan Empire—and neither are Netheia’s most ardent supporters.

There is so much heart, and feeling, and lore, and worldbuilding. The words really draw me in to the world, and Ms. Wlazlo's narration has, in my opinion, improved markedly from a pretty solid start in the past five years.

I'd struggle to point at any part of this that I could take issue with. My only real criticism I can think of is that the final chapter felt a bit jam-packed and perhaps a bit rushed. A very touching ending, though.

I love this series with all my love

This is my favourite feel good fantasy romance series of all time. It has everything from interesting characters and couples, to deep world building. I will aim to keep my reviews succinct because I would like you, potential future reader, to experience the joy of this series without spoilers.

Daughter of the Moon is a return to Ieflaria through the eyes of two foreigners with very different backgrounds. Netheia was the adversary in the previous book (The Empress of Xytae) and I find it rather enjoyable to get her perspective on the events. She has a lot of character development in this book. Klavida is the perfect counterpart for Netheia, a naturally curious person from a common family who struggles with her identity. I would call this book my favourite of the series because of its themes and how well it keeps building on all the previous books.

The narration by Brenda Scott Wlazlo is a joy to listen to.
