Summary

 Sookie Stackhouse is a small-time cocktail waitress in small-town Louisiana. She's quiet, keeps to herself, and doesn't get out much - not because she's not pretty - she's a very cute bubbly blonde - or not interested in a social life. She really is... but Sookie's got a bit of a disability. She can read minds. And that doesn't make her too dateable.

And then along comes Bill: he's tall, he's dark and he's handsome - and Sookie can't 'hear' a word he's thinking. He's exactly the type of guy she's been waiting all her life for.

Easy to understand and very authentic with the narrator (the excellent Johanna Parker) speaking in a Louisiana accent the whole way through. It's such an entertaining world and the characters are excellent! A truly excellent listen and sets the tone for the gory, violent and sexual adventures to come.

I love this series and think the writing is excellent; however the narrator's voice can make or break an audio book. Luckily, we get the voice of Johanna Parker who becomes Sookie and the rest of the cast effortlessly, leaving the listener free to focus on the story which is full of drama and dark humour. This is definitely a book, and series, worth your time.

To be quite honest I’m a little biased, the southern vampire mystery’s are my all time favourite books. Johanna Parker has a voice that’s easy to listen to and helps bring the world to life.

This book is the first of Sookie Stackhouses many adventures and is a great start to a fab series, which also links in with some of the Midnight Texas stories. Loved it.
