About this listen

They say everyone has a guardian angel … could that be true?

Thirty-three years after his untimely death in 1983, Terry returns to the land of the living to discover the world has somewhat changed. Why is he back? And who is Deana, the old acquaintance suggesting he must atone … demon, angel, or diva? Humour, romance, suspense, the two most unlikely guardian angels, and a time leap from the 1980s.

Book One – It’s Payback Time

Kim Meyer, a self-proclaimed thirty-something hapless wreck, when facing a perilous future following a series of unfortunate events, considers a rather unsavoury suggestion to haul herself from a dire situation … she may have no choice.

However, Kim receives two offers of help. Vinny, the man she could see a future with, but knows that will never happen. And Terry, the peculiar stranger. Although this ‘Good Samaritan’ bears her father’s name and an uncanny resemblance, it can’t be him because he’s dead … or is he?

Book Two – Death Becomes Them

Following a string of disastrous decisions, Damian, a lovable, hapless fool, loses everything. Swindled out of his business, dumped by his girlfriend, and forced to rent a squalid flat in one of the country’s most notorious estates. When facing a perilous future, Damian receives two offers of help. His neighbour, Courteney, although no angel, the young woman is undeniably streetwise. And Terry, the peculiar stranger.

Book Three – Dead Goode

Following an unexplained death linked to Terry’s past, one woman’s future happiness is at stake.

Ginny Goode’s happiness. After ten years of marriage, her life shatters when she discovers the truth about her husband. If that wasn’t bad enough, the confident, thirty-something professional soon realises the man she once loved plans to ruin her.

When facing a perilous future, Ginny receives two offers of help. However, who can she trust … Viv, a reformed gang member from the odious estate where she’s now forced to live, or Terry, the peculiar stranger?

I enjoyed the Jason Apsley series but the first book of this new series is on another level completely, with a great story and superb characters. I’m writing this after listening the first book and REALLY hoping the others are as good! 3 books for 1 credit? Take a punt I very much doubt you’ll be disappointed! EDIT I’ve now listened to all three books and although they all take a little while to get going they ARE all three brilliant! Also if you live in the City that I do, you will know where the author spent part of his life as it shares a LOT of place names with Fairfield :-)

Brilliant story brilliantly performed

I generally enjoyed this series of books. However the experience was spoiled by the male performers dreadful accents. Laughable if it wasn’t so annoying. Every male character sounded like an imbecile. Shame

Enjoyable but

I enjoyed book one, so much so I foolishly bought the Series. Book two offered nothing new. It was a little thin and predictable, but past the time. Book three was painful from beginning to end. (Lee Beddow - stating its a Scottish, Irish or Welsh accent doesn't make it one, especially when they all sound the same and nothing like they should!) . It was clearly written for people that require every thought process, action and sequence explained, then re-explained by each character, and then for good measure re-explained again in the next chapter just in case you somehow lost the very weak thread- rinse and repeat.

If it had just been book 1 it would have been 3-4 stars.

Went down hill after book one
