About this listen

An all new digital audio edition of DEATH ON THE NILE narrated by Kenneth Branagh, director and star of 20th Century Studios’ upcoming Death on the Nile feature film.

The tranquillity of a cruise along the Nile is shattered by the discovery that Linnet Ridgeway has been shot through the head. She was young, stylish and beautiful, a girl who had everything – until she lost her life.

Hercule Poirot recalls an earlier outburst by a fellow passenger: ‘I’d like to put my dear little pistol against her head and just press the trigger.’ Yet in this exotic setting nothing is ever quite what it seems…

Kenneth Branagh reprises both his directorial role and that of the iconic detective in the upcoming film adaptation of Death on the Nile. Listen to the book now, and see the thrilling mystery come to life on the big screen soon!

Critic reviews

“The construction is flawless.”
Daily Mail

“Must be read twice, once for enjoyment and once to see how the wheels go round.” The Times

“The main alibi is of the first brilliance … the descriptive work hits, as it were, the Nile on the head.” Observer

“A peach of a case for Poirot. I take my hat off to the author for as ingenious an alibi as can well be imagined.” Sunday Times

I wanted to read this book before the movie came out and saw that the actor who plays Poirot actually narrated this.

And I must say, this is was the best audio book I’ve ever listened to!
Brilliant performance, voice tone, the accents, the pace, all of it.
It’s almost like watching a movie that lasts 8 or so hours, absolutely fabulous.

I recommend immensely you listen to it, it is a fully immersive and fantastic experience. Bravo!

Loved the Orient Express movie and absolutely cannot wait for this movie to come out. Thank you so so much Mr. Branagh, please read more Poirot books and, hopefully!, make more Poirot movies!

One of the best audio books I’ve listened to

One of my favourite Christie books and this reading by Kenneth Brannagh doesn't disappoint. Excellent!

Always fantastic

I really like this version read by Kenneth Branagh. He really does a good voice for Poirot and his other characters voices are excellent.
I hope Harper Collins update some of the other stories that have been read by some of the female narrator's, as not all of them have narrated to the same level as Hugh Fraser, David Suchet and now Kenneth Branagh. ie Murder in Mesopotamia.

This story is based around a woman scorned and we all know the wrath they can possess and how to deal it out.
But as the plot proceeds and all the characters become entwined into the story set before us... Do we really know what the outcome will be at the end of The Nile?

A really good listen

There has been some politically correct post-production editing done on this audiobook and this is my only problem as I do not believe that Christie herself would have approved of it and it interferes with the context of the everyday language which was used at the time in which it was written.

While reading along with a copy of Death on the Nile I noticed that the word 'Negro' was substituted with the word 'African' at one point, but it was stated (by a voice which may not even have been Branagh's) so abruptly that it interrupted the flow and was obviously inserted into the recording at some stage after Branagh had already read the original sentence.

This did not sit well with me but other than that (and maybe one or two more similar instances) this was a brilliant rendition of a terrific book and I thoroughly enjoyed the story - looking forward to seeing the new movie now.

Just one problem

Have got 2 other versions on audio of this book, and this one stands well against them both
