Summary

Complete trilogy now in audio — listen straight through.

The debt is paid. The darkness is just beginning. After everything she survived in Book 1, the last thing she expected was for the stakes to get higher. But the Maddox clan doesn't do things by halves — and what's coming for them next makes a supernatural prison look like a warm-up.

Debts & Darkness is Book 2 of the Desire Aforethought trilogy — a dark reverse harem paranormal romance featuring an MM/F why-choose dynamic, morally grey incubi, and a heroine who refuses to break no matter what the world throws at her.

Dual narration by Lia Langola and Stephen Dexter. All three books available now. No waiting.

Wow !! Part 2 questions answered and new questions formed. Love this audiobook, the heat is poppin and Jane’s inner monologue had me cracking up at times! The Shrek reference had me in stitches! The glow between the characters in great, the narration is on point and I would glad seek out other work by these narrators. I can’t wait to start part 3 and see where the story goes, Jane’s journey had be very enjoyable, I have really appreciated the inclusion of her neurodivergent experience. With demons, fae and many different beings there's is a lot for my imagination to run with and I love it.

Great listen

I am hooked on the Desire Aforethought series! After the cliffhanger in book one, I couldn't wait to dive back into Jane’s world, and Debts and Darkness did not disappoint. The mystery deepened in such an addictive way—I spent the whole time trying to figure out the demons' true intentions and who Jane can actually trust.
The reverse harem dynamic is even more intense here. Watching the relationship shift between Jane and the five Iron Incubi—especially as some of them start to show their softer sides—was everything I wanted. Lia Langola and Stephen Dexter are great; their performance makes the tension feel so raw and real. Can't wait to get to the next one.

Loving this series!

The tension continues as the Iron I's assume the absolute worst about Jane after the events of book one. Having read some of Kyra's other works, when she does betrayal by an MMC she goes all in and this was no exception. My heart was breaking following the breadcrumbs and knowing Jane was about to go through it especially after the incident with Foley. Lia Langola turns in a great performance as Jane showing her neurodivergence as part of her personality without reducing her to a label. The delivery of some of Jane's oneliners had me in stitches (her reactions to Vic's dad and Theo's added extras were highlights) and I love how she continually gets back up after being knocked down.

Stephen Dexter also had plenty to work with as the male narrator; his Theo and Paris are my favourites this time round, although Sie's "maybe she just gets bitey" gets an honourable mention. In a 180 for me compared to the last book, Paris has won me over after educating himself and apologising and Vic is in the bin. Kor is in there with him and was giving me whiplash too; his relationship with Paris is very sweet but I need him and Vic to get their grovel on. I get the feeling though that possessive Vic may be about to make an appearance though as I don't think Dad is done yet!

There were a lot of twists and turns relating to the Order, the Fae and some revelations about Jane's past which kept the pacing going. I need Chekov's corrupted footage to be revealed as that little nugget was tugging at me the whole time (every time Paris was on page I wanted an update!); especially as my prime suspect is out of the running. Who Jane heard in the office is in my top three questions going into book three!

My interpretation of the star system;
3 stars - I enjoyed it; would read the author again
4 stars - I really liked it; I am invested and definitely want more from this author/series
5 stars - I loved it; I engaged with this book completely until I finished it and it is one I will re-read

More grovel please!
