About this listen

A clever and steamy queer romantic comedy about taking chances and accepting love—with all its complications. Perfect for fans of Alexandria Bellefleur, Casey McQuiston and Rosie Danan.

Delilah Green swore she would never go back to Bright Falls—nothing is there for her except memories of a lonely childhood. Her life now is in New York, with her photography career finally gaining steam and her bed never empty. Sure, it's a different woman every night, but that's just fine with her.

When Delilah's estranged stepsister pressures her into photographing her wedding with a guilt trip and a large check, Delilah finds herself back in Bright Falls once more. She plans to breeze in and out, but then she sees Claire Sutherland, one of Astrid's stuck-up besties, and decides that maybe there's some fun (and a little retribution) to be had, after all.

Having raised her daughter mostly on her own while dealing with her unreliable ex and running a bookstore, Claire depends upon a life without surprises. And Delilah Green is an unwelcome surprise...at first. Though they've known each other for years, they don't really know each other—so Claire is unsettled when Delilah figures out exactly what buttons to push. And when they're forced together during the many wedding preparations, Claire isn't sure she has the strength to resist Delilah's charms. Even worse, she's starting to think she doesn't want to...

I kept seeing this title, but kept putting it off. I'd binged a number romance stories intended more for a YA market and thought this would be more of the same. Eventually I moved it to my Wish List with a "maybe", and finally, when looking for something chilled and easy after some heavier reading, gave in and gave it a whirl. From the moment it started, I was oddly hooked. The humour kept me laughing from the minute it began with Delilah giving her sleeping partner random names because she couldn't remember her real one, and Iris' constant snarky remarks and the story's general one liners. Made me sigh and smile through the meet cute and build up of Claire and Delilah's romance. And made me nod with understanding over the family dynamics. I found myself wanting to put it back on and hear more. It was well written, the pace good, the world building well executed, with each character having pretty balanced profiles, even if it took a while to show them all. I see there are more in the series, and I am intrigued, but I feel my heart will forever belong to Claire and Delilah.

IMO, the category rom com is incorrectly applied to this excellent audiobook. It could possibly be described as a lighthearted farce, because it is written in a jokey way, but it has a serious, heart-tugging theme at its core and made me cry as much as laugh.

I could not stop listening to this audiobook and Kristen Dimecurio does a great job narrating the story. I will definitely search out more Ashley Herring Blake romances to listen to on Audible.

Very enjoyable f/f romance but not rom com

I've listened to alot of lesbian romances lately and this has been the best. A lovely balance of cute, funny, relatable and sexy. Likeable characters and good character arcs. Look forward to the next in the series
