About this listen

Damian Grimm is dead, Wolfe has his card, and the remnants of the family that once employed Wolfe are in the hands of an ally.

But Wolfe’s original charge from Cerberus was not to clean house in the Grimm family...it was to clean house on all the crime families. The Weeds, the Singh family, and the Renfeldt all still nest in the city like ticks, all of whom have grown fat and powerful picking up the pieces of the other families.

And a shadowy figure, a deckbearer so powerful he was born before the Civil War, seems to be coordinating their efforts. And he’s sent an ex-navy seal to deal with Wolfe.

With Shel, Miriam, Rhett, and a new ally, the hacker, Fern, Wolfe must make sure he is ready to fight this new threat. He must make his deck, and the decks of his allies, more powerful. He has to train himself. Get the remainder of the Gate to the Infernal set cards. Then he must kill the man some say is the most powerful in Noimore.

All the while avoiding getting on the police’s radar yet again.

The game isn’t over yet; round two is just starting.

Man, that was a wild ride, but in the best way. There truly wasn't a single second where I found myself bored. The story just keeps hitting you with one thing after another.

It continues right where the last one left off and if you enjoyed the previous entries, you will certainly love this third installment. We also get a lot of great development between Shel and Wolf (but I’m not spoiling a thing).

Apart from the plot, the performances from JTJ, TC, and RHR were absolutely stellar. The production quality is still outstanding — I love the sound effects. All in all, if you want a guaranteed good time, this is it.

What a wild ride!

You think that after the first two books, you'd get the idea. One crime family and a card etc etc. But in part 3 we get a lot of stuff all happening at once. I then thought wow this must be it, there is so much going on! But no there has to be another. You definitely get a lot of action per minute, so enjoy.

Incidentally sound was fab all the way through no issues.

A lot happening in this book!

Wolf really can't get a break, even when he tries to do things right. The world reminds him that those in power make the rules to benefit themselves, and becoming powerful is the biggest crime of them all.

I appreciate the introduction of the Aztek myth in the book and the explanation of how and why certain parts of the world get access to the cards and myths of others, as well as hints about what other gods would have blessed are MCs if they had been born in a different time or place.

But my biggest complaint is this: I have the paperback version, and the audiobook version cuts out all the side stories. We did not get to see the city and the building cards of other deck barers, or Malver's birthday party.

Love to see it return

Thank you John Stovall for another great storyline.
I was sceptical about Fern and her story. Still feel there is more to her story.
Wolfe has many close brushes with death but with wit, luck and his talented team behind him, Perseveres.
Shel has quite the secret which I won’t reveal.
I absolutely loved Wolfes story and am anxious for the next book.
A big thank you to the awesome voice actors narrated by: Justin Thomas James, Tiana Camacho, Ryan H. Reid. An excellent performance.

Great story. Had been looking forward to it. The later part of the book has editing issues that spoilt my enjoyment. Please do fix this.

Great but editing issues.
