About this listen

Now in Audible’s Top 100 for Christmas

A funny, warm and nostalgic 1980s Christmas adventure—written and narrated by the author.

Step back into the decade of Top of the Pops, Smash Hits, Woolworths, mixtapes… and waiting two weeks for your photos from Boots.

Tash and her brother Jamie never meant to time-travel back to October 1984. But that’s exactly where they land—on the day Bob Geldof was supposed to see the BBC report that inspired Band Aid.

Except now… he doesn’t.

Meaning:
No Band Aid.
No USA for Africa.
No Live Aid.
No history as we know it.

Jamie is determined to track Bob down and put things right.
Tash just wants to get home—her five-month-old baby is waiting for her.

What would YOU do? Return to your child… or stay and help save a million others?

Warm, witty, nostalgic and full of heart, Do They Know It’s Christmas Yet? is a feel-good, time-twisting festive comedy set against the soundtrack of a decade that defined a generation.

About the author:
James Crookes has spent 20+ years writing comedy for TV and radio (BBC One, CBBC, CBeebies) and co-presents the Bauer Radio breakfast show Big John @ Breakfast.
This audiobook is read by the author.

Content note:
Tash is lovely… but she does drop the occasional F-word when pushed. If you’re listening with little ears in the car, you may want to keep that in mind.

Perfect for fans of nostalgic British Christmas stories—and for anyone who remembers the 80s.

Absolutely loved this book. So funny and took me right back to the 80s, reminding me of all sorts of things I had forgotten about during that time. The story kept me gripped and I could not put it down. The book started off in COVID times then going back to the 80’s, I felt I was time travelling with them every step of the way. Hope this author is writing more as he should be on everyone’s radar. 5 stars from me *****.

Hilarious, creative writing on time travel to 80s

Couple of chapters in I was wondering if I had made a mistake - Tash's swearing was grinding and the family chats seemed unnecessary. However the story soon started to grow on me and I became absorbed.

When I got used to the characters they all became likeable in their own way. The premise for time travel was as believable as any could be for time travel and the means for it to happen spot on for the 1980s.

There were a few clever little twists, some of them guessable, a couple not and the ending was neatly brought together.

It was well narrated (and written) by James Crookes and I look forward to embarking on another of his.

Didn't think I would, but loved it 👍🏼

This wouldn’t normally be my genre (normally like murder mystery) but 80s being my era I thought I would give it a go. I really enjoyed it, very funny with lots of 80s memories and clichés some of which I had completely forgotten about.. as for the story, it was really well put together with lots of little unexpected twists and turns. I must admit for a while I did wonder why the American woman was part of the story but then it all falls into place….

Great 80s fun
