Summary

FROM THE SHADOW is the story of a country boy who endured a series of tragic events, leaving him alone in a big city. The cruel hand of fate had one more blow: a young offenders' institution. There, in his darkest hour, it would be the bars he lifted, not those that bound him, which would finally change the trajectory of his life - forever.

Dorian Yates' disarming honesty would lead to a reader of an early manuscript saying of FROM THE SHADOW, "I had to force myself to put it down -- the thought of finishing it, of the most real thing I'd ever read coming to an end, was unbearable."

I have followed Dorian on and off since the early 90’s and this book is typical Dorian . In this book Dorian is blunt and honest like he always is in opinion . There are also some very interesting contributions from his former competitors. If your a fan ( or not) of Dorian Yates and is career, you won’t be disappointed. All the best .

Great book, great story, wish it was longer than 8 hours! There is a few mistakes with the audio dropping in and out (loud and quiet) but it’s not a big deal. The story overall is great.

We grew up in the 80's and 90's, worked hard, trained hard, I can relate to everything Dorian has said in his book, from his highs and also to his lows, a brutal and honest account from himself. I really enjoyed this book, was unable to put it down until I finished it.

Honesty

As all fans of Dorian Yates, this biography is a really nice look at his life and his achievements, I’m glad it was read by Dorian, he did a great job

The only thing was at the audio jumped about a little bit, from loud to quiet and back again, and it was quite weird listening to Dorian and talk about Dorian in the third person.

That being said, I really enjoyed the book, it was a great listen and highly recommend it

Really interesting biography, a real glimpse behind the curtain.

As a former athlete and coach myself, I have always been hugely impressed by Dorian Yates. He was as groundbreaking as he was a proponent of doing the basics consistently and to a high standard. A little bit of magic with a hell of a lot of hard work.

Bodybuilding to this extreme was never my thing, but even if you have no interest in bodybuilding or even fitness at all, it will make no difference to the read.

This is a book about a troubled boy who knew he was destined for more, but in the pre-internet age - where BB was mistakenly seen as some sort of underground pseudo-homo sexual subculture - had no idea how he was going to get there.

It chronicles his incredible professional rise, spectacular personal fall and reinvention that has ensured his redemption in the internet age,

Highly recommended.

A great insight
