Summary

A witness. Such a simple concept - and yet for Dexter Morgan, a perfectly well-disguised serial killer, the possibility of a witness is terrifying. As an upstanding blood-spatter analyst for the Miami Police, Dexter has always managed to keep the darker side of his life out of the spotlight.

An expert at finding truly bad people - murderers who've long escaped justice - Dexter has long been giving them his own special brand of attention. But now someone has seen him in the act. Dexter is being followed, manipulated, and mimicked, leading him to realise that no one likes to have a double - especially when his double's goal is to kill him.

Dexter is not one to tolerate such displeasure...in fact he has a knack for extricating himself from trouble in his own pleasurable way.

I've now read 6 out of 8 Dexter books, and this was by far the worst. Our beloved Dexter is portrayed are cheap (constantly complains about how much he spent on his family, perhaps a reflection on the author?) and cowardly (really? Our Dexter, trembling at the thought of some computer geek?), The book is also incredibly sexist with at least a half of the dialogues bearing no impact on the story whatsoever. Dexter's conversations with Rita were annoying at best. Love Dexter, but no, this one was a miss.

Not the best

Jeff Lindsay narrating is as fantastic as ever, A brilliant writer and brilliant narrator some professionals can't narrate as good as Jeff Linday.

I loved the Dexter TV show, Tolerated New Blood and Appreciated Resurrected.

But Dexter in "Double Dexter" is a little infuriating, Being "Daddy Dexter" tas truly rotted his brain, Within a couple chapters I'd come to the conclusions that Dexter has taken a majority of the novel to come up with, I'm very glad he eventually came to those conclusions but he took his time.

I'd write more specifically but don't want to spoil it for anyone, It's absolutely worth a listen as with the rest of the series.

What made the experience of listening to Double Dexter the most enjoyable?

The pleasure of listening to Jeff Lindsay's prose, replete with dry humour and frequent alliteration, read by Lindsay himself, perfectly pouring his narration from the page

What was one of the most memorable moments of Double Dexter?

Breakfast

Have you listened to any of Jeff Lindsay’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I have listened to all of the books in the Dexter series so far. Lindsay is superb in them all and, to my ear, captures the very essence of his hero. His voice has a slinky, sultry, sulky tone when reading Dexter himself (which is the majority as we view the world through his eyes), but changes for the conversational input of the other characters.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No laughter but a big, contented smile

Any additional comments?

I've seen the T.V. series and enjoyed it but this audio series is so much better. Jeff Lindsay's portrayal is superb and lifts the whole book from a decent enough detective style series into something to savour and really enjoy.

Horribly Hunted Hero
