About this listen

*From the creator of SLOW HORSES and now a major TV series starring Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson*

'If you haven't read Zoë Boehm yet, welcome to your next fiction addiction' Val McDermid, author of Past Lying

'Good characterisation, dialogue and a well-paced narrative make this confident first novel frighteningly plausible' Daily Telegraph

It's an evening like any other when an explosion rips through the leafy Oxford suburb Sarah Tucker calls home.

In the aftermath, a house now stands devastated, with two adults dead and a young girl missing.

With the police more interested in keeping the neighbours from rubbernecking than in searching for the missing child, Sarah becomes obsessed with finding her.

She enlists the help of Zoë Boehm's investigation agency, but Sarah's and Zoë's search reveals more secrets than answers, taking them from Oxford's cobbled streets to the rugged outer reaches of the British Isles. As Zoë and Sarah draw closer to the truth, they are caught in a web of conspiracy and come up against government forces, cold-blooded mercenaries and vengeful loners.

I really enjot Mark Herron's slough house series but this one I just didn't care for. the character of Sarah didn't appeal vs the slough house crew, and the story went on a ramble at times. Not bad by any means but just not as good as Slow Horses

Found the narration superb - and the story enthralling even though I bought this audio book after watching the TV show. Enough differences to maker it worthwhile, and I will now be buying the next book to listen too.

Great narration, enthralling story

Great story with lots of twists and turns. So well written at times you cannot believe what you think has just happened and then you slowly realise what just happened. Fine selection of characters all well described. A wonderful thriller a great pleasure to read. Marvellous!

Amazing story telling. Herron at his best

My only significant observation is the missed edit. I am surprised how often I notice missed edits in audiobooks which implies some inattentive producer, limited production resources or both.

Surprising narrative and strong narrator
