September 1920.

A young bride is discovered dead at a country house on her wedding day. Has she fallen victim to the deadly Withington curse, which strikes down any woman who marries into the family?

Forensic Pathologist Dr Bernard Spilsbury doesn't believe in such superstitions, and suspects a more earthly reason for Theodora Tupper's death.

The narrator did a good job trying to bring some life to this rather stodgy tale. Only the PC was likeable. All the other characters were either stupid or supercillious. Lots of twists and turns, but I really didn't care who'd done it by the time the killer was revealed.

OK mystery about rather unpleasant people

A very enjoyable second outing for an excellent series. The main trio of investigators are varied but all well written. The plot was full of secrets and reveals. I guessed the murderer but not the motive. Very much hope for another novel in this series.

Hope there's another!

Sympathetic to the time it reflects. Well crafted. Interesting take on Sir Bernard Spilsbury, a real pathologist responsible for cases such as Crippen, Major Amstrong and many more.

Narration was excellent. Thank you Mr Telfer
