About this listen

Jillian's marriage was a nightmare, the news of her husband's death an answered prayer. She refuses to bow to the ton and pretend to mourn. And her best friend, Case, will be by her side as she defies society's rules and has her first taste of freedom.

Justin, eighth Duke of Whittington, is determined to save his family name from the scandal his brother Case is creating, but the lovely Jillian is not the foe he expected. Both vulnerable and vexing, he's never met another woman like her. But as sparks fly between them, Justin realizes he must help save Jillian from her past before they can ever have a future.

Contains mature themes.

This is a good historical book. With a struggle to conform this leading lady has so much personality. A great performance.

Great performance

Oh my goodness this book was amazing, the storyline, the narration, I’m completely addicted to audiobooks and this is my favourite so far, I’m so invested I need to know what happens to additional characters like Case and Hawk and maybe get continuing titbits on the two amazing characters from this book….. an absolute joy to listen to 👌

Outstanding, an absolute delight to the listener/ reader

This is a good story, draws one in.

But I have two niggles, both of which grated on and distracted me when I heard them. One niggle typical of American writers ... English cities do not have (and never have had) blocks. Our cities grew organically. Only very occasional and I can live with it.

But as to the narration ... generally excellent, showing the narrator read and truly understood every sentence before recording. Some narrators manifestly don't!
But here's my second niggle, and the word crops up so frequently that the mispronunciations are impossible to ignore. "Ton" in the context of a Regency romance is not the English word meaning 2880 pounds weight. it is the French word meaning the upper crust of 18th and early 19th century society, and it must be pronounced as if speaking French. The message is, to all narrators - if you are not 100% certain, LOOK IT UP.

Nevertheless - on balance, even this pedant enjoyed this hearing!

Good story even though mispronunciations made me wince
