Summary

One chance meeting on a Texas ranch. One wild, too-charming cowboy. One snowed-in night that changes everything.

Wheeler Rankin isn't here for romance—she's come to Lucky River Ranch to visit her best friend, wrangle a business deal, and prove herself to everyone who ever doubted her. But when she collides with Duke Rivers—resident heartbreaker, restless cowboy, and brother to her best friend's new flame—sparks fly hotter than a Texas summer.

Duke has always dreamed of more than dusty trails and small-town life. He's itching to see the world, but one unforgettable night with Wheeler changes his course. When a blizzard and a business road trip leave them stranded together, their no-strings flirtation ignites into something deeper.

But passion brings complications—and unexpected news threatens to upend everything Wheeler's built. As family pressures, old wounds, and new dreams collide, Duke is determined to stand by her side, ready to forge a future neither of them ever imagined.

Can two fiercely independent souls trust in love, face their fears, and find home in each other's arms? Or will the ghosts of the past keep them apart for good?

Welcome back to Hartsville, where family is found, love is hard-won, and every cowboy has a story worth telling.

Duke is a standalone romance in the interconnected Lucky River Ranch Series.

Book 4 in the Lucky River Ranch series gives us Wheeler & Dukes story. Wheeler is the bff and buisness partner of the fmc from book 1 and Duke is the eldest twin of the Rivers brothers. We start the book back in time a litte and get to see our MCs initial thoughts, feelings and reactions to each other when they first met back in book 1. I thought this laid the ground work for this story well and it didn't go on too long either. We then find ourselves in present day and these two end up snowed in together and considering the chemistry and tension they have it comes as no surprise that sparks fly and they pass their time wrapped up in each other. A tiny time jump of a couple weeks occurs and whaddya know Wheeler finds herself upchucking on the regular and boob's so sore she wants to rip them from her chest (been there)... turns out she and Duke came away from that snowed in cabin with more than either of them bargained or feels ready for. So how will they come a decision that is best for both of them whilst navigating the complicated feelings they have for each other?

This was such a great listen! I was invested and entertained from the second I hit play. I adored our main couple and how they communicated and interacted with each other, I loved getting glimpses of previous couples and the close/found family vibes were immaculate. I liked how the romantic relationship between Wheeler & Duke progressed, the spice was good and didn't overshadow anything and my favourite thing about this book was how the accidental pregnancy was written about and handled. It was done with honesty, care and depicted a reality alot of people face when finding out they are expecting even within already established relationships and it was a total breath of fresh air to read. So why not a full five stars? I wanted/needed more of the pregnancy journey on page, that is purely a me preference as I am a sucker for a well written accidental pregnancy book so had this given more of that on page it would've gotten top marks.

Lila Winters & Stephen Dexter are back narrating this installment and both were fantastic to listen to as always. Gah I honestly adore listening to them, they breathe such life into the characters they voice it's always an absolute joy to press play on a book they are involved with. 🌶🌶.5
