Summary
Julius Caesar has been assassinated. A nation is in mourning. Revenge will be bloody... Rome's great hero has been brutally murdered by his most trusted allies. While these self-appointed Liberatores seek refuge in the senate, they have underestimated one man: Caesar's adopted son Octavian, a man whose name will echo through history as Augustus Caesar.
Uniting with his great rival Mark Antony, Octavian will stop at nothing to seek retribution and avenge his father's death. His greatest hatred is reserved for Brutus, Caesar's childhood friend and greatest ally, now leader of the conspirators. As the people take to the streets of Rome, the Liberatores must face their fate. Some flee the city; others will not escape mob justice. Not a single one will die a natural death. And the reckoning will come for Brutus on the sweeping battlefield at Philippi.
The epic fifth novel in Conn Iggulden's bestselling 'Emperor' series.

I really enjoyed Robert Glenister's narration of the first two books. The story flowed well
The next two were narrated by Paul Blake whose pronunciation of names and places were slightly confusing and a little distracting from the story. He really should have kept the pronunciation the same as the first two even if he didn't think they were as accurate.
Then I came to this one read by Michael Healy. Now this reading is in another class altogether. Painful to listen to I stayed with it only because I was utterly determined. The inflections in his voice are all over the place. It's as if each sentence comes as a surprise to him. Gave me flash backs to my childhood when we had to read some awful book out loud in English class at school and none of us were interested. Some of the pauses mid-sentence were so out of place I had to skip back to replay so I could work out what they actually meant. At one point Brutus developed some sort of Irish accent. My husband has more enthusiasm when he's reading out the shopping list.
I am making a note to never ever buy another audiobook read by Michael Healy
Good story utterly ruined by a dreadful narrator

rush and for the first time. I’m really sorry to have to write this but I fear that is the worst dramatisation of a book I’ve ever listened to .... albeit that the book is really worth the listen !
Oh - what a shame!
