I initially found the narration a little difficult, but soon got used to it and found it added to the story. Our 'hero' was a completely believable character, living just outside the law. The story raised many questions about society, but not in a preachy way. I was completely caught up in his adventures and began to see how young people could be swayed by powerful rhetoric. The ending took me completely by surprise. I can't recommend this book enough, the best I've listened to in a while.

What a unexpected delight.

Yes, this book is from an unfamiliar author with an unfamiliar concept, however, stay with the unfolding story. I found myself realising that this was not just East of Hounslow, but East of Everywhere.
Slowly I appreciated that I needed to take stock of my preconceptions. This was done by the clever placement of Jay in a series of his situations, using his eyes and ears to make me think.
The author has done well to earn a place on the book awards shortlist and I’m sure we’ll hear more good things from his pen / keyboard regularly in the future.

Funny, sad, eye opening, saddening, entertaining, positive, educational....

Had to persevere to get into it, but once engaged its gripping enough.
The characters could have done with a little more filling out.
The narrators pitch got occasionally whiny and high, but overall was well suited.

On point and relevant..just a little polish needed
