A Game of Thrones style dark fantasy tale where nobody can be trusted. Plenty of twists and deceptions

Was unsure of the narrator to start with, but found it much more enjoyable than I first expected. The story runs well, and sets up characters and events for future books. it's a nice easy listen, finished in 2 sessions. and really looking forward now to the next book in the series. Some good plot twists in the story and am interested to see where they lead! Definitely recommend this to anyone.

If you like dark fantasy, you'll like this. Even though I had previously read the Tales of Solomon Pace, it surprised me how quickly I was immersed in this story which is testament to the writer. The characters came alive with the narration of Cari Scholtens, her range of accents is amazing!

This story can go to some dark places, but it's dark fantasy so that's to be expected. It's deftly handled and the story does have some lighter moments to break up the tension.

I advise you, dear listener, to set your sensitivities and prejudices aside before starting this book. The story is dark, the characters are flawed, and the end is brutal, just as advertised.

My favourite thing about it was the different take on werewolves. Usually portrayed as mindless brutes, self-pitying outcasts or sexy beasts, in Echoes of a Storm, the werewolf is a man who owns his monstrosity. He’s competent and unapologetic. In any other story he would probably be the villain, but in this one he barely stands a chance against the real villain, a creature so cunning and despicable you’ll just love to hate.

I think I’d enjoyed this book a lot more had I been reading it, though. I found the narration quite difficult to follow at the beginning. The long pauses and lapses in editing kept pulling me out of the narrative. That being said, the narration improved considerably towards the end and Echoes of a Storm is far from tedious. The constant PoV changes and references to past events worked pretty well and forced me to keep paying attention in order to put the pieces together. Still, to say the end was unexpected is an understatement, but I can’t say much more than that without spoilers, you’ll just have to read it to find out why.

Second audio story I’ve listened too from this author, doesn’t disappoint in any way , the skills of the narrator really help.
I read faster than I listen so the only downside is how long a commitment you require.
The story is dark and weaves a complex political web of dealings, back stabbing sand magic.
Really enjoyed.
