This book is the best book I have ever read on thermodynamics. The author makes the subject come alive. Thanks to this book I finally understood the Gibbs free energy, the reasoning behind the Rayleigh-Jeans law and the ultraviolet catastrophe, and the relation between Maxwell's equations and the constancy of the speed of light in special relativity.
The only downside is that the second part of the book, starting from the chapter on Claude Shannon onwards, is not as brilliant as the first half.
