About this listen

Leo wanted to make something out of himself—and build dams.

However, the world doesn't want dams. And it mostly doesn't want civil engineers. It doesn't want men who do any sort of building or fighting or grand design, it seems.

So, when Leo finds his current girlfriend and boss being threatened by a brutal loan shark and all three of them get dragged through a portal to another world, it doesn't take long for him to decide this is the place for him. Plus, everyone has magic, and who wouldn't want that?

Leo appears in the realm of a fallen kingdom, one that desperately needs someone who will both fight for what's right and build a grand civilization.

Along with his new coterie of friends—a not-quite-a-princess elf and a crippled dragon—Leo must race to build his kingdom before the loan shark Kruegar can finish Leo off with a legion of orcs.

[A litRPG adventure with kingdom-building, base-building, some slice of life, and a whole lot of quipping. Also, an in-depth magic system, leveling options, and an empire chart system. Check out the audiobook that has received over half a million views on RoyalRoad!]

I really enjoyed this. It had a really great story to follow and some really good hunour that didn't fall flat to me. Can see where inspiration is pulled from in some places but those are done well rather than feeling like you just tried to rip off of something else in your own way. The voice for Lilly wasn't my favourite and did grind on me a little here and there but, what can you do? The dynamic of the team, along with Hugh being a little shit was really fun. If you like a good fantasy series with an MC that isn't OP and has real danger to him through stronger foes, good world building that slowly brings itself out as the MC needs without feeling slapped in for exposition's sake, and a great team that really build off each other, this is for you. Looking forward to what I hope will continue to be a great series! Nice job to all involved in this audiobook!
